An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the local magnitude scale was registered at 5:40 am on 8 September 2026, with its epicentre in the Ohrid-Struga area, according to the Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje.
The tremor, located roughly 135 km southwest of Skopje, was felt across the southwestern part of the country, particularly in Ohrid and the surrounding lakeside towns, with an estimated intensity of IV on the European Macroseismic Scale.
No damage or injuries have been reported in Struga or the wider area. Residents are reminded to familiarise themselves with basic earthquake safety guidance, as the Ohrid-Struga region lies within a seismically active zone.
